Morality,
humility, compassion, joy, suffering, pain, depression, love; All of these are man made concepts. Animals can probably experience a portion of an aspect of these
emotions, but that does not mean they are deserving of our compassion or
sympathy. Those who are deserving of these are other human beings. People who
can actually understand what the meaning of our actions are and those we can
actually create bonds with that are deeper than our own understanding. Sure you
can make bonds with animals. You can play ball with your dog, or pet your cat,
yet that bond is nothing when compared to the bonds that you make with other
human beings. Those hour long conversations you have with your best friends,
whether those friends are your parents, siblings, or unrelated people, make
bonds that go much deeper into your being than when you run alongside your dog.
Just think about all of the loved ones you have. Think about how much they
really are worth to you. Your best of friends are worth the world, so are they
not worth a couple of animals? Maybe not even a couple. If your friend had a
disease of some sort, speaking theoretically, and the only way for them to be
saved would be for the mass experimentation on monkeys would you not say your friend’s
life was worth more than that of monkeys? Well simply because your friends may
not have anything that is life threatening, is it worth it to lower the chances
of someone else’s survival for the lives of a couple of meaningless animals? If
you had to choose between saving your dog or saving your best friend, which
would it be? If you want to go out and save animals because it is your heart’s
desire, then go right ahead. That is the right of mankind; to follow our hearts.
Do not, however, try to enforce ones’ own desires among others. If there are scientists who want to experiment on animals because they want to find the cure
for a disease, then one has absolutely no right to decide whether they should
or should not. By stopping animal experimentation one is halting the
progress of mankind; no one has that right. No one has the right to decide that the life
of an animal is worth more than that of human being. Or does one say that the
life of a monkey is worth more than that of the life of one’s own mother?
I completely agree with using animals to help humans in a life or death situation. I don't agree with using animals to test makeup or hair products. That is completely inhumane to treat animals like that. They are suffering for stuff humans to necessarily need, and when they are done with them they throw them out like trash and make them suffer even more. Its sad how much people look down on animals when in reality they really arnt. They will never be above humans and never equal, but should never be treated as harshly as they are. I agree they should be used to help humans in a life or death situation because they are the closest things to us and we would get the best results but other than that I don't agree.
ReplyDeleteI understand your opinion. I do agree and support animal research for the sake of human kind. Scientists has developed a lot of alternative test subjects to replace animals but I think animals are still the best test subject for newly made medicines because they have very similar internal body structure and they can react to drug/medicine like human. Also, scientists are not just developing medicines for humans, they also developing medicines for other animals.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jose. Because we are so much more psychologically advanced than animals, human lives are more precious than animals. I don't think that we should be spending money that we don't have on animal rights. Our economy is already in a deep hole that doesn't seem to be getting filled any time soon. We need to focus our attention and resources on human sufferings, not on animals’ sufferings. For example, the animal rights activists suggested buying toys for pigs, but some people don’t even have enough food to survive. We should be spending our money on programs that provide the poor with food and necessities, not on pointless things like buying toys for animals. Until we find another way to find cures and to do research that doesn’t involve animals, we should continue with experiments on animals.
ReplyDeleteI agree that animal research can be a good thing and should not be stopped: however, I do not agree that the bonds someone makes with their pet are worth less than the ones they make with humans. For some people, the bond they make with their dog can be just as meaningful as the one they make with a friend at school. A dog can become part of your family; when it dies it can hurt just as much as when a family member dies. It is more than just some animal; it’s a friend that requires love and can love back.
ReplyDeleteI agree that no one can be stopped and that people complain so much about how we mistreat animals for animal testing but I don't see them complaining when they get a disease but there's a cure for it through animal testing.
